Behavior & Education Specialist

Description:

The Behavior Specialist is responsible for overseeing student behavior progress, incentives, and interventions, providing individual support to students, group support to staff, and supporting families as needed.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Design, plan, and implement behavior support plans in/outside the classroom in collaboration with classroom staff.
  2. Use IEP and school reports to measure goals in behavior support plans and analyze the effectiveness of behavioral interventions.
  3. Provide in-classroom support as needed to support and encourage students.
  4. Assist caregivers in facilitating healthy routines and behavior interventions.
  5. Maintain records of students' special education reports, services provided, and behavioral data.
  6. Participate in programs as part of the Summer Day Camp, such as enrichment activities, lessons, Troops, yoga, dance, and sports programs.
  7. Create opportunities for children to succeed and develop academically, physically, and socially.
  8. Seek ongoing professional development and resources to better support youth and families.
  9. Ensure consistent practice of Child Safety Policies.
  10. Report suspected cases of child abuse, neglect, or endangerment to authorities.
  11. Perform other related duties as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Bachelor's degree in human services, education, or a related field (Master's preferred).
  2. Experience working with diverse backgrounds and ages, preferably TK–8th grade.
  3. Experience handling emotionally charged situations.
  4. Training others in applying behavior management techniques effectively.
  5. Knowledge of behavior analysis and characteristics associated with specific behavior needs.
  6. Understanding instructional methods and curricula.
  7. Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and how to lead in such contexts.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Respond effectively and positively to children's behaviors.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and families.
  • Enforce program rules and policies confidently.

EQUIPMENT USED:

  • Modern office equipment and relevant software.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. (e.g., file boxes).
