Be our next Principal Mechanical Engineer

Your work environment at EXP

In this role, you will be part of the MEP team within the Buildings sector (Science/Technology & Life Sciences projects), based in San Francisco, California.

What a day at EXP has in store for you

  • Identify, research, and qualify RFP/RFQ's and upcoming projects for go/no go potential.
  • Lead and manage submittals in response to RFP/RFQ's.
  • Manage existing and develop new client relationships.
  • Perform at a responsible charge level, meeting EXP's design and quality standards.
  • Manage work plans and deliverables on multiple projects within budgeted hours.
  • Collaborate with project teams and clients to meet scheduled milestones.
  • Apply risk management procedures daily to minimize EXP's and clients' exposure to problems.
  • Understand MEP/FP work planning and manage the design process within the available hours.
  • Deliver appropriate scope of work documents at SD, DD, and CD levels.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines such as architectural and structural teams.
  • Edit and develop scope of work narratives and basis of design documents.
  • Develop equipment room sizes during SD and DD phases.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of Mechanical/Electrical codes.
  • Perform advanced equipment selection and analysis (generators, UPS units, chillers, boilers).
  • Mentor designer-level staff and oversee their responsibilities daily.
  • Conduct QA/QC reviews of calculations and provide guidance.
  • Understand and apply concepts of CHW, HW, WSHP, variable & constant flow systems.
  • Perform advanced equipment selection and analysis, including chillers, boilers, air terminals, cooling towers, HEPA filters, DX equipment, and water source heat pumps.

What your experience looks like

  • Engineering Bachelor's degree in HVAC/Mechanical Engineering with 15+ years of HVAC and piping design experience.
  • Experience designing HVAC systems for Science/Technology, Life Sciences, or Healthcare projects.
  • Experience in project management and leading multidisciplinary teams.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) preferred.
  • Proficiency in REVIT MEP required.

The pay range for this role is $160,000 to $200,000. Actual compensation depends on factors such as skill set, experience, certifications, and location. Compensation may vary in different regions due to labor cost differences.
