This position reports to the Associate Chief Operating Officer, UCDH Ambulatory Operations. The Executive Director is responsible for strategic planning, operations, and patient experience in the ambulatory setting for assigned service areas: Musculoskeletal and other specialties.

The role involves providing leadership and monitoring of day-to-day clinic operations, systems, policy development and implementation, and fiscal performance of the clinics. The incumbent manages resources to meet patient care, safety, quality, and institutional performance goals. They lead process design initiatives to increase ambulatory service efficiencies, improve financial performance, and enhance patient satisfaction as part of the enterprise strategic plan.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in health administration or related business field, or several years of relevant management experience; a related degree should be completed within three years of employment.
  • 4-6 years of progressive management experience, with demonstrated skills in managing financial, human, and facility resources.
  • Knowledge and experience in healthcare administration, with the ability to learn UCDHS operations to support clinic managers, providers, and staff.
  • Fiscal management experience and skills to develop and lead a successful team overseeing clinic operations.
  • Effective communication, goal-setting, planning, decision-making, and consensus-building skills.
  • Negotiation and persuasion skills for collaborative relationships across departments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Experience developing and managing clinics, programs, and supporting systems, especially in ambulatory hospital-based outpatient settings.

Key Responsibilities

Administrative Responsibilities (25%)

  • Collaborate with senior management and represent the division on projects and committees.
  • Coordinate regulatory reviews and site visits.
  • Work closely with Medical Directors and Managers of hospital-based clinics.
  • Ensure Practice Managers meet deadlines and support their professional growth.

Organizational Responsibilities (25%)

  • Develop and implement system-wide goals and strategies.
  • Facilitate clinic efficiency improvements and financial performance enhancements.
  • Plan and oversee system technology and process improvements.

Financial and Operations Management (25%)

  • Monitor resource utilization and budget adherence.
  • Ensure revenue optimization and billing accuracy.
  • Manage clinic standards and strategic goals.
  • Coordinate facility operations and interdepartmental communication.

Department Overview

Providing comprehensive ambulatory services across Sacramento through 74 clinics at 32 locations, including hospital-based clinics, multispecialty off-campus clinics, ambulatory surgery centers, and virtual care options.

Position Details

  • Full Salary Range: $160,700 - $388,700
  • Location: UCDHAS Building (HSP165), Sacramento, CA
  • Hybrid work model (on-site and remote)
  • Union: Non-Represented (PPSM)
