This is a hybrid role, with the expectation that work will regularly take place both inside and outside of our San Francisco office.

Our team focuses on building a supportive ecosystem for the investor community and their portfolio companies. The Managing Director will work collaboratively with our Business Development team and Commercial Bank colleagues to uphold SVB's brand reputation and help investors achieve their business goals.

The Venture Capital Relationship Management (VCRM) team is a key part of our innovation banking strategy, supporting business development, complex transactions, and developing value-added solutions beyond traditional banking.

As a Managing Director in VCRM - Fintech, you will lead the strategic direction of the team, drive growth, and develop high-impact relationships within the industry. Leveraging your expertise in venture capital, corporate venture capital, and the Life Science/HealthcareFintech and AI industries, you will identify transformative opportunities to deepen the organization's presence in the Venture Capital and Private Equity landscape, maximize value creation, and generate new business.

Responsibilities


Strategic Leadership & Business Development:

  • Develop and execute strategies to establish and maintain relationships with top-tier venture capital firms, clients, and decision-makers in Life Science/HealthcareFintech VC/CVC sectors.
  • Lead understanding of and anticipation for the evolving needs of VCs and portfolio companies, strengthening our position in these sectors.
  • Identify and pursue high-impact relationship development opportunities and market share growth with VC/CVC firms.
  • Provide strategic leadership to internal teams, VCs, and clients, shaping our approach to new opportunities and trends.
  • Implement long-term strategic plans to expand our reach and impact in the venture ecosystem.

Portfolio Management & Industry Engagement:

  • Oversee high-level engagements with VCs, guiding discussions on portfolio companies and ensuring seamless communication.
  • Lead analysis of venture-backed financings, performance, and fund creation to position the organization as an industry thought leader.
  • Manage research processes using proprietary and third-party databases, leveraging insights for strategic decisions.
  • Represent the organization at high-profile events, establishing yourself as a thought leader.
  • Mentor and develop team members, building a strong talent pipeline.
  • Address issues and opportunities cross-functionally, oversee strategic initiatives, and participate in complex deals or escalations.

Cross-functional Collaboration and Organizational Leadership:

  • Lead the review and development of global VC opportunities, creating strategic plans for expansion.
  • Manage complex projects involving internal and external partners, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to align strategies with broader organizational objectives.
  • Drive innovation in products and services, implementing transformative solutions.
  • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with industry leaders and stakeholders.

Team Mentorship and Development:

  • Build, lead, mentor, and inspire a high-performing team of relationship managers and specialists.
  • Set performance standards, evaluate regularly, and provide mentorship.
  • Identify skill gaps and implement targeted training programs.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Exceptional ability in developing and maintaining executive relationships with clients and partners.

  • Deep understanding of the VC and investments landscape, with ability to anticipate market trends.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of influencing C-suite and industry leaders.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree with 8+ years of experience or High School Diploma/GED with 12+ years of extensive executive experience in venture capital, Life Science/HealthcareFintech/InsurTech/AI industries.

Preferred Qualifications

Extensive executive experience in venture capital, Life Science/HealthcareFintech/InsurTech/AI, with a proven track record of growth, thought leadership, and strategic initiatives.

The salary range for this position is approximately $222,480 to $333,720 annually, with actual starting pay based on skills, experience, and location.
