Tonopalo Private Residence Club is looking for a dynamic General Manager to oversee our premier beachfront/mountain property on the shores of beautiful Lake Tahoe.

OVERVIEW

The General Manager is in a hands-on position that leads the operations of the Tonopalo Private Residence Club. The GM will oversee all day-to-day operations, ensuring exceptional service standards, maintaining the club's financial health, and fostering a strong community for owners. The position requires high-level operational expertise and excellent personnel management skills, including leadership, conflict resolution, and the ability to mentor and delegate effectively. The General Manager reports to the President of the Board of Directors.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Operations Management:

  • Oversee all aspects of club operations, including personnel, facilities, housekeeping, maintenance, concierge services, exchange programs, and owner services.
  • Facilitate successful implementation of procedures, provide clear instructions, and promote excellence in all areas.
  • Ensure the club operates smoothly, safely, and consistently, meeting or exceeding the expectations of owners.
  • Implement and enforce policies and procedures to enhance efficiency and maintain quality standards.
  • Perform duties of all Tonopalo staff as needed, less than 50% as an exempt employee.

Facilities Management:

  • Ensure all common areas, including beach, dock, pool/spa, grills, fire pit, lobby, entry, and fitness room, are impeccably maintained at all times.
  • Ensure all workspace areas, including executive office and break room,
  • are clean, organized, and impeccably maintained at all times.

Leadership:

  • Lead, motivate, and manage a team of supervisors and staff, fostering a positive work environment and driving performance.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and retain high-performing staff, ensuring that all team members adhere to Tonopalo procedures, standards, and expectations.
  • Exemplify a strong work ethic including punctuality, reliability, accountability, integrity, honesty, adherence to policies, attention to detail, and commitment to excellence.
  • Monitor employee performance consistently, conduct regular performance reviews, and formally evaluate staff biannually.
  • Create a culture of accountability for consistent adherence to the employee code of conduct policies, including, but not limited to, dress code and personal appearance, use of club amenities, punctuality, and parking.
  • Maintain a professional, respectful, and supportive tone when communicating with employees, owners, vendors, and third parties about the Board of Directors, management decisions, or the operations of the Club. Any concerns or disagreements regarding Board actions or management policies must be communicated privately through appropriate internal channels, not publicly or in conversations with the staff or owners.

Community Relations:

  • Develop relationships with local businesses, leaders, regulatory agencies, and vendors.
  • Establish a collaborative relationship with the Board and its representatives, fostering effective communication and mutual respect.

Financial Management:

  • Develop and execute cost control measures without compromising quality.
  • Implement scheduling practices that prevent overstaffing and overtime; authorize overtime only in extreme emergencies.
  • Oversee the budget and assess financial performance, ensuring all financial goals are met.
  • Review financial reports regularly and make recommendations for adjustments to improve and maintain financial health.

Compliance and Safety:

  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including CalOSHA, safety standards and Workers' Compensation reporting requirements.
  • Implement safety protocols and emergency procedures, ensuring the well-being of both owners and staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a GM or ADM role within the hospitality industry, including but not limited to private residence clubs, resorts, or luxury hotels
  • Proven record of managing operations and leading teams to success with commitment to excellence in a service-driven environment

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, Hospitality Management, or a related field mandatory

Skills/Personal Attributes:

  • Exceptional leadership skills, including goal setting, motivating, training, and mentorship
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Effective conflict resolution and critical thinking skills
  • Strong financial acumen with experience in budget management and financial reporting
  • Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to work under pressure, adapt to changing priorities, and meet tight deadlines
