Description

Tahoe Donner Association is looking for a Lead Groomer to join our Downhill Ski Resort operations! The Groomer operates heavy construction equipment and/or snow grooming equipment with attachments. This position operates heavy equipment in an efficient manner on an as needed basis and grooms trails with the objective of providing an enjoyable skiing surface for members and guests. This position knows the capability of the machinery and understands maintenance functions and gauges.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Operate tracked equipment on ski and snowboard runs to arrange snow into groomed slopes.
  2. Operates grooming machinery and performs job duties and responsibilities in extreme weather conditions during the late evening and early morning hours of the day.
  3. Performs inspections of equipment before and after operation of grooming machinery.
  4. Assist with grooming machinery maintenance including checking fluid levels, condition of machinery and other areas in order to maintain grooming machinery in a safe and proper working order.
  5. Trains new operators on the lines and turn around locations on the hill.
  6. Communicate schedule, machine status, or other information with vehicle maintenance and Mountain Operations Manager.
  7. Monitors weather and ski conditions to assist in the preparation of the daily ski report.
  8. Document and report condition of grooming machinery to vehicle maintenance.
  9. Assist with snow removal including shoveling, and clearing snow from walkways, paths and other areas as necessary.

We are looking for the following qualifications:

Required at all levels
  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Effective communication skills, oral & written.
  • Strong sense of customer service & safety awareness
  • Able to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Have a neat & clean appearance in compliance with the company grooming standards.
  • Punctual, able to report at scheduled start time.
  • Work well as part of a team.
  • Able to work with minimum supervision.
  • Must be able to work long and irregular hours.
  • Must be willing to work holidays and busy periods.
  • Ski Area Experience
  • Requires possession of valid Class C Driver License with a driving record meeting the minimum standards required by the Association insurance carrier.
  • Equipment operation background and experience with diesel engine/hydraulic machines
  • Advanced knowledge and troubleshooting skills grooming equipment.
  • Preferred experience to FIS standards


These skills and abilities are typically acquired through a high school diploma or equivalent and the completion certificate program from a one-year college or technical school plus four year's relevant experience and/or training with grooming/Snowcat operation experience, and at least one year's experience at the Tahoe Donner Ski Area; or an equivalent combination of formal training, education and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform all of the duties of the position.
