Description

Tahoe Donner Association is looking for a Lead Snow Maker to join our Downhill Ski Resort operations! The Lead Snow Maker is responsible for all aspects of Snow Making operations, including hiring and oversight of staff, maintenance, and upkeep of equipment. This position is hands on working side by side the crew in the field while providing training, and supervision.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Assist with supervision of daily snowmaking operations.
  2. Coordinate on hill placement of manmade snow.
  3. Works with grooming staff to schedule appropriate snow distribution around the mountain.
  4. Coordinates with Ski Patrol to plan trail openings and closures.
  5. Inspects and maintains components of snowmaking system, records adjustments needed, trouble shoots malfunctions and trains workers in repair of snowmaking system.
  6. With direction from Mountain Operations Manager, inspect ski trails daily evaluating need for manufactured snow, utilizing a snowmaking system and issues instructions to snowmakers. Performs routine maintenance on snow guns, cleaning nozzles, de-icing guns and hoses.
  7. Ensures that safety protocols are followed including PPE, confined space and other operational procedures.
  8. Assist with snow removal including shoveling and clearing snow from walkways, stairs, equipment and other areas as needed.

We are looking for the following qualifications:
  • Requires valid class C Driver License with a driving record meeting minimum standards required by the Association Insurance
  • Requires previous snowmaking and snowmobile operation.
  • Knowledge and understanding of ski area operations.
  • Working knowledge of air water systems and fan gun operation.
  • Mechanical knowledge of screw compressors, pumps, fan guns, etc.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment such as bulldozers, excavators, tractors, loaders, skid steers, or snow cats.
  • Ability to ski/board all levels of terrain.
  • Ability to function well in adverse weather conditions

These skills and abilities are typically acquired through the completion of a high school diploma or equivalent and three years related experience and/or training in maintenance and operation of snowmaking equipment, as well as supervisory and heavy equipment operation experience; or an equivalent combination of formal training, education and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform all of the duties of the position.
