Summary Of Job Responsibilities:

This job has the goal of providing the opportunity to acquire practical experience through direct exposure to the related business line(s) and to develop the next generation of diverse business professionals. To that end, the program will provide hands-on training and experience in the business line, expose the various career opportunities in the business line and related areas, and prepare participants for positions in the business. The Graduate Intern will support analytic and research projects within Highmark Health's Social Determinants of Health and Research Enablement Analytics teams. In close collaboration with team members, the intern will contribute to studies examining factors influencing health outcomes and equity, clinical quality, and cost of care. Day to day activities may include data exploration and cleaning, literature reviews, and assisting with data analysis, interpretation, and write-up. The internship will provide a hands-on introduction to applied health services research and is ideal for students considering graduate study or careers in healthcare analytics, population health, or public health research.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Pursuance of a graduate degree full or part-time in an accredited college or university.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduation date: Spring 2026 or earlier.
  • Completion of bachelor's degree in fields related to health services research and public health, including biostatistics, data science, and social sciences.
  • Foundational skills in data analysis using R or SQL.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated interest in social determinants of health, health equity, or health system research.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.

  8. Support preparation, cleaning, and documentation of analytic datasets.
  9. Conduct literature reviews and summarize key findings.
  10. Assist with statistical analysis, data visualization, and presentation of results.
  11. Contribute to research products such as abstracts, posters, and manuscripts.
  12. Participate in team meetings and cross-functional collaborations.
