Principal Applied Scientist

The OCI Speech Science team is dedicated to advancing AI-powered speech technologies, including state-of-the-art Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR), Text-To-Speech (TTS), Speech-To-Speech (S2S) translation, and conversational AI solutions. As an applied scientist of the OCI Generative AI Science team, you will collaborate with fellow scientists, engineers, and product managers to research, develop, and deploy world-class speech and language technologies on OCI. You will have the opportunity to contribute your expertise in building and optimizing models and services that enhance the customer experience while maintaining the highest levels of data security and privacy.
We are looking for an innovative and driven applied scientist to help advance the areas of ASR, TTS, S2S translation, and conversational AI. In this role, as a Principal Applied Scientist, you will work on the full lifecycle of speech and language AI services from model design to production deployment supporting OCI's broad range of enterprise customers.
Responsibilities include:
- Conduct research and development in ASR, TTS, S2S translation, and conversational AI, staying up to date on industry and academic advancements.
- Design, implement, train, and fine-tune deep learning models for speech recognition, synthesis, and translation, driving improvements in accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.
- Collaborate closely with other scientists, engineers, and product teams to integrate speech AI technologies into OCI cloud-native products and services.
- Analyze enterprise requirements and customer use cases to deliver effective, scalable solutions.
- Ensure responsible AI development by adhering to best practices in model evaluation, security, and data privacy.
- Share insights and technical expertise with the team, contributing to documentation, code reviews, and project planning.
- Continuously learn and develop new skills in cutting-edge AI/ML methodologies, tools, and frameworks relevant to speech and conversational AI.
Qualifications and experience include:
- PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Linguistics, or a related field, with research centered on machine learning or deep learning and 5+ years of relevant experience.
- Alternatively, a Master's degree in any of the above fields, with 7+ years of relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience in developing and evaluating deep learning models for ASR, TTS, S2S translation, conversational AI, or related NLP applications.
- Strong publication record or significant contributions to open-source projects and/or internal solutions.
- Proficient understanding of machine learning algorithms and architectures, as well as programming skills (e.g., Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills in speech or language processing domains.
- Strong collaboration and communication abilities; able to work effectively within a cross-functional team.
- Experience in deploying AI/ML models in production environments is a plus.

Range and benefit information provided in this posting are specific to the stated locations only US: Hiring Range in USD from: $120,100 to $251,600 per annum. May be eligible for bonus, equity, and compensation deferral.
