Position Information
Incline Village-Crystal Bay Justice Court is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the position of Interpreter/Clerk. Our mission is to promote and preserve the rule of law and protection of rights by providing a fair, independent, and impartial forum for the peaceful resolution of legal conflicts.
Under the general supervision of the Judge, and in his/her absence, the Court Administrator or Court Clerk, the Interpreter/Clerk performs a range of clerical and Spanish-English interpretive duties. Primary responsibilities focus on civil and citation cases but may also include criminal case support.
Part-time: 32 hours a week. Presently Monday through Thursday 8 am to 4:30 pm but subject to change as Court days of operation and hours may change.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Two (2) years of administrative or clerical experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience as determined by IJC Administration.
- Bilingual language skills including advanced written and spoken English and Spanish (grammar, spelling, and punctuation).
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge:
- Court procedures and functions.
- Legal and court terminology.
- State and federal laws, codes, and regulations related to court operations.
- Court-related software, information systems, and modern office equipment.
Ability to:
- Learn and apply court policies, procedures, and terminology.
- Analyze problems and make informed decisions.
- Communicate clearly and professionally, both orally and in writing, in both English and Spanish.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards.
- Lift and move items up to 25 lbs.; sit for extended periods; use office equipment.
Conditions of EmploymentReference and background checks, including fingerprinting, are required of candidates who receive an offer of employment. All offers of employment are contingent upon passing a background investigation.
All work is performed in a general office environment with moderate noise levels, ample lighting, and a moderate/fast-paced atmosphere. The role requires continuous and frequent reading of digital screens.
This is primarily an individual role, but support and assistance from staff are always available.
Occasional travel is required, 5% or less; travel is regional in scope requiring travel by driving.
Example of Duties(Examples include but are not limited to the following)
- Provide in-person, video, and phone interpretation in Spanish for non-English-speaking parties.
- Assist the public by explaining court procedures, policies, and resources.
- Perform data entry and maintenance in the Court's Case Management System for citation, civil, and criminal cases.
- Prepare and process legal documents, including judgments, warrants, and court orders.
- Review and file legal documents, ensuring accuracy and compliance with format and content requirements.
- Manage case calendaring, prepare files for hearings, and verify completeness of case records.
- Handle evidence custody and certify records as needed.
- Maintain and organize electronic and physical case files.
- Collect and record fines, fees, and other court payments.
- Support cross-training efforts and perform duties of other clerks when required.
- Schedule and oversee mandatory mediation program for small claims cases.
