Overview

The Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority is seeking an experienced Labor Relations Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate thrives in the world of Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA) and Employee Relations, acting as a diplomat, analyst, negotiator, and strategist. This is a working manager position with no direct reports.

Who we are

We are the owners/operators of the Reno-Tahoe International Airport. We are a small but mighty team of 280-ish employees who take tremendous pride in the work we do and the important role we play in our community and the Reno-Tahoe region. We are Accounting professionals and Maintenance staff. We are Architects and Engineers, Police Officers and Operations Managers (and much more). We are undertaking the largest capital improvement project in the history of our Airport: MoreRNO.

Whats it like working on the People Operations Team?

Reporting to the Director of People Operations, you will help establish best practices and set the standard in this role. The team is culture-focused, busy, and impactful, guiding the organization through exciting developments including a new RTAA Headquarters building and new terminals.

Responsibilities

  • Establish positive working relationships and provide ongoing support for RTAA managers on employee relations and CBA requirements. Provide counsel and coaching for managers and employees in complex performance and disciplinary cases.
  • Build positive relationships with shop stewards and union/association representatives to improve collaboration and resolve conflicts when necessary.
  • Serve as RTAAs Chief Negotiator during new or successor negotiations; analyze union proposals; craft counter and initial proposal language; obtain and prepare cost data as needed.
  • Administer and interpret provisions of RTAA CBAs for management, supervisors, payroll, and other employees; resolve disputes over contract interpretation and disciplinary procedures.
  • Manage grievance processes, ensure timelines, coordinate arbitration as requested, and collaborate with legal counsel through the Director of People Operations.
  • Manage employee relations issues from complaint to resolution; assist with development of Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs) as needed.
  • Conduct thorough investigations regarding behavioral and performance issues in line with RTAA policies and CBAs.
  • Administer compensation and other programs per CBAs and guidelines; oversee data, pay and classification changes in HRIS and related systems; work closely with the Payroll Administrator as needed.

This position is essential personnel as part of RTAA's Emergency Response Team and may respond to airport incidents as required.

Salary

Entry Salary: $105,700 - $131,000 per year, with opportunity for merit-based increases to a maximum of $156,400. Initial salary placement based on experience and qualifications. This is a salaried, exempt position.

Benefits

Minimum Requirements: Education | Experience

  • Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Labor Relations, or related field or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in People Operations/Human Resources with strong knowledge of collective bargaining tactics and principles.
  • 3+ years of labor relations experience in a collectively bargained environment.
  • 3+ years of experience with employee relations practices from complaint to resolution.

Required Licensing and/or Certifications

  • Valid Driver's License; ability to obtain and maintain eligibility for a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge.
  • SPHR/PHR or SHRM certification is highly preferred.
  • Clearly state how you meet the minimum qualifications in your detailed resume or work history.
  • Provide at least five years of employment history, listing each position separately if you had more than one role with the same employer, with dates.
  • Explain any gaps of employment of 6 months or more in your work history.
