Interim Sr. Manager - Associate Director of Clinical Finance

Our client, a publicly traded biopharmaceutical company, is seeking an experienced Clinical Finance professional to support its growing R&D finance function. The position is hybrid, with in-office expectations on Tuesdays and Thursdays at their office in San Francisco, CA. This engagement has an estimated duration of 6+ months.

Responsibilities

• Support financial strategies and processes aligned with clinical program goals
• Lead budgeting, forecasting, accruals, and long‑range planning for clinical trials
• Prepare and maintain clinical trial budgets in coordination with Clinical Operations and vendors
• Update financial models for scenario analysis and cost tracking
• Partner with Clinical Operations, Accounting, and FP&A to manage trial‑related expenditures
• Contribute to monthly close processes and provide variance analysis
• Assist in process improvements for clinical financial reporting
• Deliver financial insights and summaries to leadership and internal stakeholders

Requirements

• 8–12+ years of FP&A experience, with a focus on clinical finance in biopharma or healthcare
• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field; MBA or CPA a plus
• Strong understanding of clinical trial budgeting and vendor financial management
• Proficiency in financial modeling, forecasting, and variance analysis
• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate cross‑functionally
