The University of Nevada is recruiting for a Campus Security Officer (CSO) for University Police Department Northern Command. The Campus Security Officer patrols and protects campus buildings and grounds. Positions may be assigned to any campus to include the University of Nevada, Reno, Truckee Meadows Community College, Desert Research Institute, and Western Nevada College.
The CSO consistently follows directives and guidance from supervisors. The CSO follows procedures and guidelines for security or safety violations. The CSO enforces rules, regulations, and laws within the scope of their job duties. CSO consistently looks for violations of safety and security protocols and makes corrections or notations of issues.
Security Officers provide security for State buildings and grounds; provide protective services to buildings and occupants; enforce applicable laws, rules, regulations, and policies; and apprehend offenders. Maintain security of assigned buildings or facilities and surrounding property by conducting visual surveillance through direct observation; monitor State property, displays and individuals entering and leaving buildings and take appropriate action according to department policy. Patrol buildings and grounds checking windows, locks, doors and security systems for damage or possible breach of security; follow established procedures and guidelines when security or safety violations occur.
Required Qualifications:
This position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
This position requires having a valid Class "C" driver's license or higher operator's license at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
This position requires that the employee become certified in CPR, first aid, AED, TASER, handcuffing, baton, and defensive tactics within the first 90 days of employment and as a condition of continuing employment.
This position requires extended periods of walking or standing and exposure to inclement weather.
The typical work schedule will be Monday through Friday, working day or evening shifts, and is subject to change based on organizational needs.
Grade 27
In classified service, salary is in Grade and Step. The Step is determined based on the Nevada Administrative Code. Salary placement above a Step 01 at initial appointment is determined based on the recruitment, the candidate's qualifications, internal equity and budgets. A request to accelerate salary must be approved by Human Resources and abide by the Nevada Administrative Code.
