In the role of Adaptive Skills Trainer, you will be part of a team that uses an innovative and person-centered approach to support adults with developmental disabilities leading productive and meaningful lives in their community. Southside Unlimited's mission is to empower individuals who use behaviors to communicate their needs to reach their goals of active citizenship, personal progress, and meaningful work. Adaptive Skills Trainers work alongside participants as they volunteer in the community, and provide support depending on what each participant needs in order to live up to our mission.

Skills Required:

• Willing to help people learn job skills.
• Experience with different coping strategies to help reduce anxiety, fearfulness, or frustration.
• Problem-solving skills and the ability to think outside the box.
• Able to break things down so that people can learn at their own pace.
• Comfortable communicating with multiple members of a team and asking questions when things don't make sense.
• Basic knowledge of computers and familiarity with word processing.

Required to Work:

• A reliable vehicle that seats up to 3 additional people and a DMV record with no more than 3 points in the last 4 years.
• Driver's License, proof of car insurance and vehicle registration
• CPR/AED/First Aid Certified
• Clear a background check

Personality Characteristics Needed:

• Organized - able to multi-task and work with up to 3 people at a time.
• Assertive - able to ask for help when needed
• Good Judgement and sense of morality when working with people who may not be able to speak up for themselves.
• Creative thinkers - willing to bring your unique talents and share them (i.e. crafters, gardening, musicians, artists, etc)
• A good sense of humor - able to see the brighter side of things.

Salary: $22/hour (guaranteed 37 hours/week) with bonuses & increases after 1, 3, and 5... years, health/dental insurance, paid time off, paid holidays, cell phone stipend and mileage reimbursement
Hours: Monday-Friday between the hours of 8:30 am-4:00 pm and off at 3:30pm on Fridays.
Location: Adaptive Skills Trainers work in the field at sites located in Sacramento/West Sacramento/Elk Grove/Galt or Auburn
